Journey With Dr. Jay Maheta...

On the 19 to 22  September,
Dr. Dilip Barad Sir organized guest lecture by Dr. Jay Mehta at our Department of English MKBU for 4 days.But, Dr. Jay Mehta is not a guest, he is also a shining star of our English Department MKBU. Jay Sir, said He was a still learner..His style of teaching just amazing, it catches the attention of every student of the class.

Here, I want to share my experience of learning under Dr.Jay Maheta.. Basically his subject was Edger Allen’s Short story, which is totally different from Poetic. But, he teach us Poe with use of  poetup language by given various examples of poems. 


"The theories we believe, we call them facts and the facts we disbelieve, we call them theories."

I remember Jay Sir said,I assured you all that you will never feel bored in my class, and he proves his words, because of his teaching style,his teaching style is unique and finally we have not get bored in his class.

# About Edger Allen Poe:-

Edgar Poe was as an American writer, editor, and literary critic. Poe is best known for his poetry and short stories, particularly his tales of mystery and the macabre. He is widely regarded as a central figure of Romanticism in the United States and American literature as a whole, and he was one of the country's earliest practitioners of the short story. Poe is generally considered the inventor of the detective fiction genre and is further credited with contributing to the emerging genre of science fiction.



I can say, Jay Sir had a grasp knowledge about Edger Allan Poe and his writing style.
In this four days, He has talked about Poe’s short stories like…


1) The Tell Tale Heart
2) The Black Cat
3) The Fall of the House of Usher
4) The Cask of Amontillado
5) The Purloined Letter
6) The Gold Bug

We can see Poe’s world of horror, fear, intrigue, unusualness, death, terror, mystery, puzzle, detective and most importantly the animal like face of human in his Short Stories..

Two types of short story Poe writes :
1.Tales of horror and terror. 
2.Tales of ratiocination. 

A very Brief Analysis of short stories:-

*1) In Tell- tale heart one man has hate for one old man's blue eye that's why on one night he killed the old man.

*2) In The black cat he was drunked and felt ignored after that he anger on his cat and kill that innocent..

In both of above story narrator has not any kind of self contradiction.He accepted his crime very easily.


*3)The fall of house of Usher 

*4) The  Cask of Amontillado

In these both stories Poe creates horror atmosphere and make fear.


*5)The Purloined Letter 

*6)The Gold Bug.  

First is detective type story and second is about the suspense of treasure.


# Session on Poems (Creative Writing):-

Along with Poe and his selected Short stories, our last lecture was about Poets and poem of Gujarati/Hindi  Literature.
I was missed it because I was absent And my friends told me that it’s really unforgettable lecture. In this Session he talked about various poets which is memorable..
