Thinking Activity on Matthew Arnold

#Thinking activity: Do you agree with Mathew Arnold's views on detachment, disinterestedness, fallacies like historical and personal, touchstone method and his definition of Poetry? # Matthew Arnold (1822-1888)was one of the greatest Victorian critic. He was a poet turned as critic.. He was highly moralistic person of his time. Arnold gives a definition of poetry. He said, Poetry is a "Criticism of Life"... This definition also relevant to present time. So I agree with Arnold's principles of detachment and disinterestedness. Arnold has expressed his great thoughts and ideas in explicit, vivid and consummate manner..

Wordsworth: Preface to Lyrical Ballads...

Wordsworth: Preface to Lyrical Ballads November 20, 2017 William Wordsworth was born on 7 April, 1770, in Cockermouth, Cumberland, England. The theory he produced, and the poetics he invented to embody it, caused a revolution in English literature. Developed throughout his life, Wordsworth’s understanding of the human mind seems simple enough today, what with the advent of psychoanalysis and the general Freudian acceptance of the importance of childhood in the adult psyche. But in Wordsworth’s time, in what Seamus Heaney has called “Dr. Johnson’s supremely adult eighteenth century,”  where Wordsworth could be closer to his friend and fellow poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge. Together, Wordsworth and Coleridge began work on a book called Lyrical Ballads, first published in 1798 and reissued with Wordsworth’s monumental preface in 1802. The publication of Lyrical Ballads represents a landmark moment for English poetry; it was unlike anything that had come before, and paved the w

Kenneth Branagh's movie "Hamlet"...

September 04, 2017 My views on Kenneth Branagh's movie, 'Hamlet': · 1       How faithful is the movie to the original play? 1》Yes, the movie is faithful to the original play, because Branagh utilizes the entire script virtually word for word. but, their are some notable changes: Which is not clearly in the original text is a sex scene between Hamlet and Ophelia. which is used as a flashback at various points. #Or In movie Hamlet was following his father's orders even though in the play he was not. #Hamlet's father died in a tragic death,Shakespeare never clearly states the atmosphere and setting of where Claudius poisened his brother but,Branagh choose a clever way to show it. · 2        After watching the movie, have your perception about play, characters or situations changed? 2》In the movie, The setting is much more modern than original. In the movie version Gertude appears to truly care for her son and sees the horror of her choic

About Post-Truth.....

Image
Post- Truth August 21, 2017 what is post-truth? In 2016, Oxford Dictionaries chose post-truth as its word of the year, defining it as shorthand for “circumstances in which objective facts are less influential in shaping public opinion than appeals to emotion and personal belief”. Oxford Dictionaries announced its word of the year for 2016 and earlier it's not part of the vernacular or as recognizable as the runners-up like "alt-right," "adulting," "woke," and "Brexiteer," then we recognize how it played a major role in the election of Donald Trump. Post-truth is a reworking of the much discredited Marxist notion of ‘false consciousness’ that was based on the notion that there is one living truth centred on the wisdom of those who are sufficiently enlightened.   It assumes that there is only one objective truth and that the debate between the half-full and half-empty can be settled conclusively and objectively.

Digdarshak Review....

Digdarshak - One Act Play August 20, 2017 Digdarshak (Hindi Drama) One Act Play Written by Priyam Jani Directed by Rishit Jhaveri A few days ago we watched a hindi play Digdarshak @ our Department of English;it was organised by a film screening committee members. I have no idea about theater but what i feel or observed is it is.. It is a story about a Director and Actor. Director is so much involved in his theater life. He gaves too much attention to his students rather then family. Director sacrifice his personal life for his art or theater,so the main theme  of this play is THEATER V/S FAMILY..because he sacrifice for the theatre. Only two man perform many roles on the stage or cover full stage. Director used flashback techniques to throw a light upon the concept. Its really painful that sometimes we are not able to balanced everything... Thank you..

When is Indian television going to launch something innovative and brilliant¿¿ Indian television industry should feel ashamed for showing such ridiculous concepts and exposing children to such crap...this is pathetic..instead of showing progressive thinking these shows promote how backward indian society is! For us, this one definitely comes as another blow to the Indian Television, which has no great reputation, anyway.

Robinson Crusoe Publication date 25 April 1719 (298 years ago)Followed byThe Farther Adventures of Robinson Crusoe.   1》Write about colonial discourse in Robinson crusoe.. * In Defoe's Robinson Crusoe, colonialism is clearly apparent. To put the literary work into its proper context, it should be noted that the story was published in 1719, and England was enjoying the prosperity of the American colonies. Colonialism is also seen in how Crusoe treats Friday once they leave the island. Crusoe's answer to prayer, one who he looked to like a son, he "civilizes" so that he can become a part of the great land of England, but not as a brother or fr
