Movie review of Lagaan: Once upon a time in India.....
15th August 2018,
Bhavnagar...
Department of English has organised the Movie screening of Lagaan.. I was not able to seen the movie at department but I saw at home..I love to watch movies for entertainment... Or I can say, I m watching all the movie for time pass.. But,when I entered into Department of English I watched movies for blog writing or as a part of my syllabus..
Lagaan was directed by Ashutosh Gowariker, produced by Aamir Khan and Mansoor Khan, and written by Ashutosh Gowariker and Abbas Tyrewala.
The film is set in the Victorian period of India's colonial British Raj. The film was shot in an ancient village near Bhuj, India.
As a English literature students,i have to analyse the movie with the help of various literary theories, approaches and different perspectives.
1)Post Colonialism
2)Nationalism
3)Indianess
4)Patriarchy
5)Cricket as metaphor
6)Subaltern
7)Rural India
8)Teamwork and Leadership
# Post Colonialism:-
This movie represents post-colonialism through the game of cricket. We accepts to play cricket because we want freedom from tax but now in free India why this game is more famous than any other game. It clearly shows that how still British people ruling our mind. Still nowadays cricket is more played and watched than our national game.
# Teamwork & Leadership:-
Many wants be leader but become a leader is not an easy task because after became a leader he/she have many responsibilities or many problems.. Leader has always different view to look the things. They have optimist way to see the things. So same things happens with Bhuvan (Amir Khan). Bhuvan looks things differently. He thinks that victory in the cricket match leads his village people towards bright future. But nobody understands his point. He facing many problems and humiliation during making the Cricket team but he never takes his steps back.
Thank You...
